Michael Toroitich Ng’eno is 57 years old and is married to Rosaline Jemaiyo Koech who is 55years old. They both have four children. Their main source of income is through the sale of maize. It does well in the region and earns them a decent income at the end of every season. Through the proceeds generated from sale of maize, they have managed to accumulate savings through the support of HFHK group model lending programme with a vision to build a low cost decent house.
Michael started his journey of owning a dream house with small steps; he started with the construction of a pit latrine and a bathroom through his first loan of Kes 35,000 which he paid within a period of two years. He again applied for a second loan amounting to Kes 80,000 which is enough for the construction of his new house from foundation to walling which is currently on going.
Michael feels very grateful to Habitat because he now has a decent latrine and will soon have a good house. He will pay the loan in 24 months and thereafter apply for another to complete the house. He says two years is worth waiting for now that he has an assurance that he will complete the house in the next loan disbursement.
