Saturday 30th April 2011 was not just any other ordinary day for the displaced persons at the Mahiu IDP camp. A group of three families together with their children led by Gillian Oyugi joined hands with Habitat for Humanity Kenya to help Samuel Kairu, one of the victims of the 2007/2008 post elections start the journey of moving from a tattered tent to a permanent three roomed durable house.
The team took up the challenge and dug the house foundation setting the stage for the construction process of a full house.
“Today is my happiest day and I am grateful to the almighty God for sending this team to come and help me build a new house. I cannot thank them any better but pray that God will bless them abundantly”, said a jovial Samuel.
The Local volunteer program is an initiative by HFH Kenya that enables Kenyans help fellow Kenyans access decent shelter. The Program provides participants with a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the impact their donation is having in the lives of the target beneficiaries. In addition, the experience bind the volunteers and internally displaced families and helps form bonds and friendships that we believe will last lifetime.
Just like Gillian and team took part in HFH Kenya local volunteer build program, we invite you and your friends, family members or colleagues to take part in this exciting experience.
