wambui gichuri – board member

Ms. Wambui Gichuri joined the Habitat for Humanity Kenya Board in February 2023. She is a highly qualified Water & Sanitation Sector Specialist with a unique experience and track record as senior manager with the World Bank and the Africa Development Bank (AfDB). Wambui started her career in 1990 advising on community water systems in Kenya. This led her to join the World Bank as WASH Sector Specialist in 1998. She was then promoted to Senior WASH Specialist in 2004 and then to Regional Team Leader of the WB Regional Water and Sanitation Program from 2008 to 2012. After which she joined WB HQ in Washington as regional Water Practice Manager successively for Latin America and for Africa.

In 2018 Mrs. Wambui was detached to the AfDB as Director, Water Development and Sanitation. A position she held from 2018 until her retirement in March 2021. During her last year with the AfDB, Wambui acted as Vice-President, Agriculture, Human and Social Development.

She has extensive leadership and management experience in delivering results mostly in developing and implementing regional and country sector strategies and programs that respond to client needs; solid people management skills; ability to mobilize and manage financial and human resources, partnerships, and knowledge in international, regional and country-level contexts; ability to work in multi-cultural environments.
