Today, when you visit Selina, you are welcomed not just into a house, but into a home where the future has taken root, and where that future is already being passed on to the next generation one home at a time.
Laughter echo before you even reach the gate. As you get to Selina's home, the sound of children playing fills the air, a joyful symphony that speaks of security and peace of mind. A few goats graze outside her compound, painting a picture of a household that has found its footing.

Inspiring the future generation
Through a settlement-based approach, Habitat for Humanity Kenya aims to build safe and resilient communities where families can afford quality homes with access to basic services and infrastructure. From full house construction, house improvement, water facility construction and rehabilitation, community sanitation and hygiene infrastructure, energy-saving solutions, and livelihood support, a full spectrum of promise and a safer world is being created.
And perhaps the most powerful impact is the ripple effect into the next generation. Selina’s old iron sheet house, the one that once leaked and had only a dusty earth floor, has a new coat of paint and the open spaces are now sealed.
But her support does not stop there.
With determination that can only be revealed through silent moments, as she gestures to a stack of stones at the edge of her perimeter barbed wire fence.
“I bought these to ensure the old mabati house has a good floor that will ensure no more dust and dampness,” she explains. Despite her age, Selina remains determined. She continues to save through her women’s savings group, putting aside what she can to support her family.

With a new home, she gave the old house to her son and immediately began working to repair it, determined to break the cycle of inadequate housing for the next generation.
