Machakos, Laikipia and Homa Bay Build Events
Habitat for Humanity Kenya held unique volunteer build activities to celebrate World Habitat Day on 3rd October, 2022 in Kyumbi Area Machakos County, Naibor Laikipia County and Rangwe Homa Bay County. The volunteers drawn from corporate organizations, individuals , partners and well-wishers contributed their time, energy, labor and resources to construct a total of 4 houses for low-income and vulnerable families, during these events all those who have supported HFH Kenya over the years to provide housing solutions in Kenya were recognized.
The Kyumbi Area build event, attracted over 70 volunteers from the local administration, Strathmore University, KCB Foundation, Architectural firms, and community members who constructed two houses for Douglas Mutinda and his family and another house for Regina a 67-year-old widow.
In Laikipia the County government officials, community members took part in the build event to construct a house for Nabuel Atuko 68-year widower . While in Homa Bay, community members mobilized themselves to offer sweat equity as they volunteer to construct a house for Ruth Ambuso 62-year-old widow.
The build events marked the climax of the 40@40 campaign which was launched in March 2022 to celebrate HFH Kenya’s 40th anniversary. The campaign aimed at constructing 40 houses for low income and vulnerable families, with each house representing a year of HFH Kenya’s work and presence in Kenya. The campaign also reinforced the relevance and contribution of HFH Kenya’s vision and mission of addressing housing needs, and creating awareness on the unique housing challenges facing the low income and vulnerable populations over the years.
